Rob Lutes with Rob MacDonald - Saturday, October 19, 2024 @2PM
Suggested Donation: $25 per person RSVP rickksroom@gmail.com
A masterful fingerstyle guitarist with an unmistakable, soulful voice, Rob Lutes has steadily built a collection of exquisite songs that inhabit the intersection of folk, Americana, country, blues and the singer-songwriter genre. Originally from New Brunswick but based in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, his 8th album, Come Around, was released in April 2021 and received four 2022 Canadian Folk Music Award nominations for Album, English Songwriter, Contemporary Singer, and Producer of the Year (with Rob MacDonald) along with a Maple Blues Award nomination for Acoustic Act of the Year. He is a two-time CFMA Contemporary Singer of the Year.
His longtime collaborator, Rob MacDonald is renowned as one of Quebec's finest guitarists and has recorded and performed with a who's who of Quebec roots artists, including Guy Belanger, Dawn Tyler Watson, among many others. After more than two decades playing together, Lutes and MacDonald have developed an ability to blend their two sounds into something unique and intense.
"A gem. Among the best in a crowded roots field." Toronto Star
‟Lutes is a fine roots/blues writer, one of those gems you find by chance as you're going through a town and he's going through a town and you just want a beer and he gives you the show of the year.” - Bob Mersereau, CBC.ca
Jerry Leger - Sunday, September 29, 2024 @ 2 PM
Suggested Donation: $25 per person RSVP rickksroom@gmail.com
Fresh off some dates with Steve Earle and summer festivals, Jerry Leger has stayed busy since
the October 2023 release of his latest album Donlands. The Mark Howard (Lucinda Williams,
Bob Dylan, Tom Waits) produced record came out on Cowboy Junkies label, and was greeted
with rave reviews from UK's Uncut Magazine and Rolling Stone Europe. Leger toured those
parts of the world in support of Donlands as well as select Canadian dates, which included his
debut on the historic Massey Hall stage in Toronto and a headlining show in its new room, TD
Music Hall. One of the country's most respected singer-songwriters, Ron Sexsmith says “Leger
has that spark in him that all the great songwriters have. He's the real deal.” For Jerry, the
search for the elusive creative spark remains never-ending, but there are always new routes to
explore in getting to it. With Donlands, he has made an album that stands as one of the peak
moments in an already towering body of work.
